Fishing Report

Well, more like a wind report.

I got to go down and get in some fishing Saturday afternoon. The wind was up and the Fishing Lake offered the only slack water.

I was glad to see a lot of folks there fishing. Looks like more folks are getting into crappie fishing.

I'm adding a new link to a crappie resource website over on the right hand side of this page under "LINKS"

As for my day I had the kids for about 45 mins. With the slow action that was about all they could take. They are more into catching than fishing. My little girl ,Allen Kaye, did land a good size bream and my son, George, landed this nice crappie........

After taking them back to the house I went back out. On a point near the Temple's I landed a 4-5 pound catfish on 4lb line with a ultra lite reel. 15 minutes later and halfway across the Lake, I finally got him in.....

Although the catfish was not what I was after, it was a lot of fun fighting him on that light tackle.

I moved on the the Fishing Lake and proceeded to miss on about 4 or 5 more crappie. They were hitting the lure real soft and I lost every one right up at the boat. I also missed a bunch of hook sets. It was difficult to tell when they hit the lure. Just very passive and weak strikes. That and my fish finder told me I was on them but they were just not aggressive.

This week's warmer weather should kick them into gear. The water temp Saturday was a consistent 65 degrees. Everything I have read tells me that means the spawn should be here quickly.

Heading in I ran into Mr. and Mrs. Lars Johnson fishing off their pier. They had an assortment of fish in the basket. Mainly bream, but also a crappie and a very nice spotted cat they had caught with what Lars called his "Aggie Rods".

I really enjoyed meeting them and had a nice talk with them.

Hoping to get back down sometime this week. Send me reports or photos if you have them.
